Instead of highlighting one Ward 8 business this month I’ve decided to talk about three different businesses two that are moving into the Ward and one that is moving about a mile away.
Many of you remember the Upside Down Smoke Shop that suddenly appeared illegally in the Merriman Valley and the time it took to close this illegal vape shop down. Now that it’s gone, we have some good news and a new tenant ;
Time Traveller Records will be moving in and hopefully open by August 1st. Time Traveler has been locally owned by (Ward 8 resident ) Scott Shepard since 1980, and is currently located on W Market St. across from the Old Dave Towell Cadillac. Time Traveler will be located at 1375 Merriman Rd., Unit D, right next to the Noisy Oyster. Records, CD’s and more, stop in to say hello soon.
Many people have asked what is going in to the former troubled Empire Lounge building at 1830 Merriman ,and George’s Lounge , a longtime staple in Downtown Canton has bought the building and currently renovating the space. I’ve talked with the owners, and they promise a neighborhood Gastropub, with food, possible open mic night and the occasional band on weekends. They fully understand the problems the Empire brought to the Valley and are committed to being a good neighbor everyone in the Valley.
Lastly , I’m sure you’ve driven by 32 Sand Run Rd. right behind Pilgrim Square and wondered “what is going in that new Building”? In about two weeks, the new South Point Tavern will be officially open. South Point is in the plaza behind CVS at Market and Frank, is known for their extensive bourbon selection amd craft cocktails.
So there you have it, updates on 3 Ward 8 locally owned businesses and former vacant properties, 2 new to the Ward and one that’s moving. I hope you’ll support them as they open and keep shopping local!
