As our nation prepares to celebrates its 250th anniversary, Keep Akron Beautiful( KAB)  is doing their part, and you can help! This April, thousands of volunteers will take part in Clean Up Akron Month, Keep Akron Beautiful's largest volunteer initiative of the year. It's also part of Keep America Beautiful's annual Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest community improvement program.

After a long winter, neighborhoods across Akron need some fresh energy. Together Akronites will cleat litter form parks, streets, school grounds and public spaces- creating cleaner, safer and more welcoming neighborhoods for all.  We can all help make Akron and Ward 8 shine as part of America;s 250th celebration.  Thanks to dedicated volunteers, tons of litter are removed each year, making a visible impact across Akron.   KAB provides all the supplies, and arranges the trash collection to support every project, all you need to do is bring your neighborhood/project and commitment to a clean safe community.

Both Ward 6 Councilman Brad McKitrick and I helped in two clean ups together last year, one with Preserve the Valley(along with about 50 more volunteers) focusing on Smith Road Hill, and another with members of City Council around Copley Road and I-77. It's unbelievable how much trash accumulates on the side of our roads.   Preserve the Valley will be cleaning up again in Merriman Valley,  but what about Parkway Estates, Hardesty Park, Castle Park, Frank Blvd, Zahn,Treeside, Cliffside or any of our Ward 8 Neighborhoods?

Here's how you can get involved.  Stop by this month's Ward 8 Meeting Wednesday March 18, 6-7:30 at the Northwest Family Recreation Center, 1730 Shatto.  Emma Segedy with Keep Akron Beautiful will tell you step by step how easy it is to get a group together in your neighborhood and do your part.  Let's Make Ward 8 Shine this spring!
