Back when Marilyn Keith was our Councilperson, Ward  8 had a number of active Block Watch Groups, but Covid pretty much wiped them out. I talked about this with many of you while knocking on doors this spring. While neighborhood Facebook and Instagram groups have popped up over the last few years, I’d like to see more street/neighborhood Block Watch Groups  form to keep us all safe. Luckily, many of us know just the person to help, and it’s our APD Community Engagement Officer Brown.

Akron’s Block Watch program relies on active participation from residents to create a network of watchful neighbors. The Akron Police Department works closely with these groups, providing support, resources and training to help them achieve their goals of safer communities. Block Watch Groups reduce crime, help residents feel safer knowing that neighbors are looking out for each other and reporting suspicious activity. They also foster a stronger sense of community and encourages better communication between residents and the police. This leads to a solid partnership between residents and police, and ultimately a more responsive and effective approach to law enforcement.

Reach out to via phone or email me if  you’d like to lean more and I’ll set a time to get together on your street soon.
