Akron City Council takes a break from Monday night meetings during the month of August, but for me, it was busy as ever.  I try  to drive around the Ward to get ahead of city related issues before they get out of hand. As summer draws to a close and fall creeps in, I need to remind myself to slow down while driving, especially in school zones.

Fall is my favorite season; the weather cools down, and there’s  plenty of things to enjoy in Akron. Football (high school, college and NFL) season gets underway,  the Akron Marathon steps off on 9/27, Stan Hywet’s Ohio Mart is the first weekend of October and the Fall Hiking Spree continues through October. The colors of fall still amaze me, and I’m looking forward to being outdoors without the sweltering humidity we’ve had all summer.

We’ve got a some serious things to discuss at our October Ward meeting on 9/17. There’s been a number of car thefts and break-ins  throughout Ward 8 and the city this summer, so APD  officer Aaron Brown will talk again about how to set up a  block watch.  Akron Fire District Chief Seirjie Lash will talk about fire safety and we’ll have an open discussion on the newly proposed sewer increase.  I hope to see you Wednesday 9/17!

Lastly something I’ve talked about before, I plan on having my first “Beer with Bruce” open discussion  on Wednesday 9/24 at the Rabbit Hole, 1662 Merriman Rd.  from 5:30-7:30. Stop in if you’ve got something on your mind, a problem/concern/ question or just to say hi. I hope to juggle these  monthly with a coffee hour on a Saturday morning, so stay tuned.
