On Tuesday, August 4th, the City of Akron will host the 43rd Annual National Night Out on Crime in all 10 Wards. Our Ward 8 event will be held at the Northwest Family Recreation Center at 1730 Shatto from 5:30-7:30 and is open to all of you!

National Night Out is an annual community building event designed to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships. The  events held throughout that as Akron bring residents and local first responders together to promote crime prevention awareness and  safer neighborhoods. It originally began in 1984 as a way to encourage residence to turn on their front porch lights to combat crime today. It is grown into a massive movement involving millions of neighbors across thousands of communities the ultimate goals to breakdown barriers, allowing residence to meet and interact with police and fire in a casual positive setting before an emergency happens.

For our Ward 8 event we’ll have games for kids, corn hole, a bounce  house, free food and drinks (I’ll be cooking hot dogs)and more.  We’ll also have representatives from Akron Police and Fire,  Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, Victim Assistance, Northwest Library, Akron Parks and Recreation, Fairlawn-West United Chirch of Christ and New Covenant Community Church.

And this year we have a live band, Ward 8’s own Sudden Adult Death Syndrome ( they’re not as scary as they sound) will play pop/new wave hits from the 80’s and some originals.
